World Premiere - South Africa

It's unbelievable - it is over 12 months later, and we have just flown into Johannesburg for the World Premiere of Fezeka's Voice as part of the Tri Continental Film Festival. Not only that but some of our luggage is still in London, it is 1:30 am and we have a pick-up at 4:45 am to take Phumi and four of the choir members we feature in the film to perform on SABC's MorningLive! Glad we slept on the plane! It has been a long and wonderful adventure, and we are thrilled to be here. JoAnne… Continue

Fezeka Scholarship Fund - making dreams reality

The Fezeka Scholarship Fund has been set up to help ensure that the chance for further education becomes a permanent option for the young people of Fezeka High School. The film Fezeka's Voice will be used as a tool to celebrate and raise awareness of the Fezeka High School Choir, as well as a tool to raise awareness and money for the Fezeka Scholarship Fund. 50% of the profits of the film will go directly to the scholarship fund with another 20% going towards the outreach and community en… Continue

Missing you all

Just wanted to let all you wonderful people at Fezeka know that we are missing you terribly and thinking of you so often. Holly, JoAnne and I went to a charity event last night, put on by a very cool charity called Ubuntu based out of Port Elizabeth. They are wonderful people and interested in very similar things but just very focused in their region. Anyway we have been hearing all about their work and sharing stories and so talking so much about you guys that I had to write. Holly and I were r… Continue

Mandela's 90th Birthday Celebration

This is my first blog so I am very proud of myself for actually getting into the groove and starting to communicate like this! And hopefully I am now converted and so you’ll be hearing lots more from me … But wanted to write today cause I had an amazing day on Friday – it was Mandela’s 90th Birthday and I went to Parliament Square to honor the moment and take part in ACTSA’s, initiative. The idea was to gather a whole crowd of people to stand in formation of the South African flag and hold up c… Continue

Hear our progress

Well, Phume and the choir left back to Gugulethu, South Africa on the 17th June, 2008. It was a very emotional farewell, for all. Since then we have been busy on all fronts: the website, fundraising, editing the film, building an outreach plan and very importantly figuring out how to raise the necessary funds to finish the film and launch our campaign for a sustainable and on-going scholarship. We have been totally blessed with the charity and hardwork of a number of individuals who have been a… Continue

The Scholarship Fund

The Fezeka Scholarship Fund was initially set up by the Salisbury Community Choir to raise money for the on-going education of the pupils of the Fezeka High School Choir. Since its inception and the visit of the kids to the UK, it has raised a generous amount of money through the amazing work of many of the SCC’s members but most of all John Elliott. The Fund will hence now go on to become an established charity of its own to continue to raise… Continue

Get involved

It is currently early days for the fundraising! We have invested about £30,000 of our own sweat and cash and need to raise a total of £193,000 to realize our dream. Gillian Anderson, who met the Fezeka choir in Salisbury - has been a fantastic support and has donated a pair of tickets for the London Premiere of the new X-Files film which are currently being auctioned off on e-bay. The proceeds from which will help to go into helping make the film (yeah!) So what else? Over the next couple of we… Continue
